My education started in a two-room Indian Day School in Skidegate and continued at a Residential School and university, graduating in 1999 with a diploma. I am a Masters’ Candidate at Simon Fraser University. I attend our language school in Skidegate when I am home on the island of Haida Gwaii. I chair the Indigenous Justice and Residential Schools Advisory Committee of The United Church of Canada. As a spiritual person, I feel I have a responsibility to speak–I see the impact of rising waters, as well as how extreme weather affects islanders, the land, and all other creatures that can‘t speak for themselves. I must.
